Pre-Surgical Physiotherapy: Why It's Important and How We Approach It

John Son • February 6, 2024

Pre-surgical physiotherapy or 'prehabilitation' is a proactive approach that sets the stage for a successful post-operative course and quicker return to daily activities. It's all about preparing your body for the strain of surgery and making for faster recovery.

Why is Pre-Surgical Physiotherapy Important?

Surgery, regardless of how minor, is a significant event for your body. Hence, pre-surgical physiotherapy prepares you mentally and physically, reducing hospital stay length, and improving surgical outcomes. It's like training for a marathon, the fitter you are going into surgery; the quicker your recovery!

Our Approach at Rosedale Wellness Centre

At Rosedale, we aim to develop a comprehensive pre-surgical physiotherapy plan tailored for each individual. It involves exercises that increase muscle strength, stamina, and flexibility. Our physiotherapists also guide you through pain management strategies, improving your confidence and readiness for surgery.

What to Expect During Prehab Sessions

During a session, our skilled therapists may use a combination of stretching, strengthening, and balance exercises to gear you up for your upcoming surgery. In addition, we offer education about the surgical procedure and post-operative care to help you with your recovery journey.

Transferable Skills

Our pre-surgical programme also equips you with skills and knowledge that will be useful in your post-surgery rehabilitation process. Whether it's learning to use crutches, understanding how to manage pain and swelling, or employing breathing exercises, pre-surgical physiotherapy gets you ready for what lies ahead.

While surgery might seem daunting, we believe that pre-surgical physiotherapy can help put you in the driver's seat and make your recovery process smoother and more manageable. So, start on your journey to recovery even before your surgery day! Contact us today to get your individual pre-surgical physiotherapy plan tailor-made by our experts at Rosedale Wellness Centre.

The updated fees help us continue to: Attract and retain experienced healthcare practitioners Support ongoing education and professional development Invest in treatment equipment, technology and clinical resources Maintain our treatment rooms, rehabilitation facilities and clinic environment Provide strong front-desk and administrative support Continue offering a broad range of healthcare services under one roof These investments allow our practitioners and staff to focus on what matters most — your health, your recovery and your experience at Rosedale Wellness Centre.
